Verna Howell
Verna serves as the Interim Assistant Director at the Mountainlair Student Union. In her role, Verna oversees the Mountainlair Games Area and serves as the business manager for the department.
Verna is a native of Morgantown. She attended the Pierpont Community & Technical Center where her love for computers & anything technology related began. She started her career at WVU in 1989 as a part-time student worker within WVU Housing and Residence Life. Verna went on to work for several years at WVU Center for Excellence in Disabilities (formerly UACDD), where she had the opportunity to work for the Specialized Family Care Grant and the WV Traumatic Brain & Spinal Cord Injury Grant. She traveled extensively throughout West Virginia on behalf of the WV TBI/SCI Grant and assisted with the development of the TBI Model Plan. Verna returned to Student Affairs in 2003 and has had the privilege of serving in various roles, including her current role as Interim Assistant Director of the Mountainlair Student Union.
Outside of work, Verna loves volunteering in her community. She was honored with the “4-Way-Test" award by the Rotary Club of Morgantown for exceptional community and volunteer service. Verna volunteered with “Save A Life” where she taught proper use and distributed Narcan. Additionally, Verna has served as the board director for the Clinton Water Association, is a licensed West Virginia Public Notary, is active in her church and community, and worked with a group to start a Blessing Box for her community. Verna enjoys traveling with family & friends, gummy bears (Haribo only) and she can be coaxed into putting on her clown costume on a whim. But what she enjoys most is spending time with her grandson Bodhi.
