Chris Schmoldt
Chris serves as the Interim Director of the Mountainlair Student Union. In his role, Chris oversees the overall operations and services in the student union. Additionally, Chris works directly with other departments within the facility including Facilities Management, Dining Services, Sodexo, Arts and Entertainment, Student Engagement and Leadership, and the Office of Fraternal Values and Leadership.
Chris received his Bachelor of Arts in Exercise Science from John Carrol University and his Master of Science in Exercise Physiology from the University of Akron. Chris got involved in campus recreation as a freshman at JCU, participating in hockey and lacrosse clubs. He then worked as an official, customer service representative, and as a supervisor. Chris worked in campus recreation as a professional from 2010 until 2022. He started as the Coordinator for Club Sports at Florida State University, before moving onto the Assistant Director of Intramural Sports and Athletic Training. Chris worked at FSU for 9 years, helping to enhance great programs and develop countless relationships with students. Chris came to WVU in the summer of 2019 as an Associate Director of Campus Recreation at WVU, where he oversaw various programs and operations until being asked to serve as the Interim Director of the Mountainlair in 2022.
Outside of work, Chris spends his time with his wife Angela and their two children Colin and Delaney. He coaches his children and enjoys seeing the development of kids in youth sports. He also loves playing hockey and rooting for his favorite sports teams: Cleveland Guardians, Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Cavaliers, Columbus Blue Jackets, and the Ohio State Buckeyes.
