Mountaineer Idol

We may not have Simon or Paula, but we still put on a great show! This fall will be our 4th year and the program just keeps getting bigger. Three finalists will emerge from the ongoing elimination rounds and will compete in the program’s Final Competition. Special guests and celebrity judges are at each elimination competition. The Mountaineer Idol has received $1,000 for first place, $750 was presented to the second place finisher, and $250 to the third place finisher. All monies to the top three students has been provided by Coca-Cola. Mountaineer Idol is sponsored by Coca-Cola, FOX 36, and American Idol. The 2008 Mountaineer Idol winner was Samantha Bartlow, a sophomore from Chapmanville, WV.

Mountaineer Week

Mountaineer Week is a celebration of the state of West Virginia that began in 1947 as a day-long event to display our Appalachian heritage and traditions. Since then, Mountaineer Week has evolved into a week-long celebration depicting the proud history of our home among the hills. Each fall, the stage is set for a week of colorful art, unique crafts, and Appalachian culture, heritage, and cuisine. The events have varied throughout the 59 years of this program’s existence, but it has been proven that the Mountaineer Week spirit still burns brightly on the campus of West Virginia University.
